With more than 600 hours invested into Fallout 4, I've found more than one way to spice up playing -- be it some truly in-depth character roleplaying or mods set to crank up the difficulty. When it boils down to it, I'm an immersion kind of guy. I really enjoy getting into character and thinking about things from a different perspective.

So with that in mind, let's take a look at some of the mods I feel boost immersion the most in Fallout 4 -- and are close to always in my load order.

Immersive Vendors by Xgrufijury

Ever thought that the vanilla vendor stalls just felt empty or lacking? I mean, aside from slight visual differences, they all felt samey. Immersive vendors fixes that by adding variety to the vendor stalls you can build at your settlements. It also populates the higher-end stalls with higher quality items to reflect its store level.

It's a minor mod but to me, it's all about those little details, especially since I really enjoy the settlement building aspect of Fallout 4. I also tend to spend a lot of time with setting up my settlements to look busier and more populated, so this mod is a big plus for me.

Eliminate Stupid Lines by Anbeegod

This is a gem of a mod that helps reduce the number of annoying generic dialog lines from generic NPCs. It's really immersion breaking, and kinda' stupid, to walk into a settlement that you own and have a random farmer say something like, 'Oh, you have a dangerous look about you. Hope you're not here for me..'

No, I'm not here for you -- I own this place. I'm the general of the Minutemen -- a defender of the common man of the wastes -- not some scummy raider. This mod helps to regulate some of those annoying lines based on your game progression choices and standings with various factions.

Rain of Brass by XLSJ

This is a really simple mod that extends the life of spent bullet casings and increases the area in which you can see them. Now, that might not seem like much of a mod, but don't knock it until you try it.

It makes the aftermath of a shootout look glorious. Spent casings litter the ground -- some still rolling down uneven terrain. It shows you just how awesome the battles are by being able to see all of the spent casings surrounding all the bodies you just stacked like a boss. Now, if only there was a mod so that you could smell that sweet gunpowder odor after going cyclic with the minigun...

Long Range Bullet Holes by SLXJ

A companion mod of sorts to SLXJ's Rain of Brass mod, the Long Range Bullet Holes mod is another nice (albeit small) touch mod that does exactly what the name implies. In addition, it also makes it take longer for bullet holes to 'heal' and disappear.

These two mods together just make battles look glorious -- and like an actual fight went down. It's the little details that matter.

Automatically Lower Weapons by Pauderek

This is a different version than the first Lower Weapon mod that came out shortly following the release of Fallout 4. This mod adds increased time delay and checks for certain actions before raising/lowering your weapon.

If you're someone who has never held a weapon for a long time, you might not know that you're only ever pointing your weapon forward (or at your target for generally as long as you're firing in that direction). Guns are heavy blokes and your arms wouldn't be able to maintain a 'fire-ready' position for long. So this makes things a lot more realistic.

Lone Wanderer Fast Travel by LoneRaptor

A more recent addition to the game, this fast travel mod adds in a repairable motorcycle that you can use primarily for fast travel. It also has some storage ability and houses some camping gear, which is greatly useful with survival mode's save system.

It makes sense that there would be some of these smaller vehicles that could be repaired or at least made somewhat functional for quicker travel. The added benefits help out in survival mode, where you have more needs and your carrying capacity is limited.

Worthless Mod by Paddygarcia

Ever notice how even the most useless scraps of stuff in Fallout 4 had some sort of use? This mod adds in junk that is truly junk -- it is actually worthless in every sense of the word.

Isn't it weird that, after all these years following the great fallout, there's all this stuff and none of it is totally busted? You mean to tell me that this toaster, that has sat here for over 200 years, is still functional? Well, this mod fixes that.

A small immersion builder, Worthless Mod makes me enjoy the game that much more by realistically making things worthless.

So there we have it -- seven immersion mods that make Fallout 4 a more enjoyable experience for me -- and probably everyone else. Hopefully, some of these mods are new to you and you can enjoy them for the first time, seeing how they really change up the game, if only a little bit.

Combat & Damage Dealt
Immersive
  • No Enemy/NPC leveled lists, weak and very strong enemies are now more rare.

  • Some enemies changed in size and speed in order to increase variety and challenge.

  • Damage to the player and enemies is equal both ways on survival. On hard and very hard, damage done to the player increases, while damage to the enemies stay the same. (Hard X1.5 , Very Hard X2.)

  • Damage is caliber based.

  • The difference between modded weapons and un modded is only 5%-30% compared to Vanilla 400%-300%.

  • Each weapon is more specialized with improved roles.

  • Real ammunition damage and weight based on real-life equivalents, fully balanced to support a fun and challenging playthrough.

  • Enhanced Melee speed and ferocity.

  • Explosions are lethal. Direct hit from a missile is now deadly.

  • Minutemen flare call for an average support of 5 instead of 3.

  • Ranged sneak attacks don't have a multiplier, Melee and unarmed attacks do.

  • Action point regeneration slowed down when starting a new game and is the same in combat.

  • Movement - Back movement and strafing speed reduced. Walking forward speed increased.

  • Melee strafing and backward speed increased.

  • Walking reduces accuracy and running reduces accuracy even more, for the player and the enemies. Crouching improves accuracy for the player and the enemies.

  • Guns take slightly longer to regain accuracy.

  • Slower leveling. No health gain upon leveling to the player or the NPC.

  • Health base is 20, each additional endurance points adds 10 hit points. The majority of the human enemies’ health ranges from 50-120. With the exception of those under the influence of drugs.

  • Mutants and robotic enemies’ health is on the higher end, the bigger and more durable, the more health they have.

  • Locational hits do more damage and are harder to hit in VATS. Limbs hits do less damage but cripple faster.

  • 20% higher limbs damage multipliers for humans and super mutants.

  • Slower poison effect.

PowerArmor
  • Powerarmor is more protective and defined, reshaped in the spirit of the original fallout lore. with better protection against energy weapons.

    45d - The least protective armor but the hardiest.

    51b - The most protective against energy weapons.

    60a - The most protective against weapon fire and radiation.

    X-series - Can only procure through quest.

  • Power armor raises strength in diminishing returns from 14 to 10. And lowers agility in growing numbers from -1 to -5.

  • Each model now has a unique quality instead of a gradual protection upgrade.

  • All Powerarmor paint add 1 to charisma. Unique abilities moved to models.

  • V.A.T.S cost substantially less action points to use, slow time further down to 0.2 instead of 0.4 and its damage multiplier now matches real time.

  • V.A.T.S hit chance has a lot less to do with range, making shorter range weapons viable.

  • Shorter V.A.T.S engagements.

AI
  • Greatly improved AI - Each group of enemies fight to utilize its strengths.

  • Brave enemies shouldn't scare so easily (Runaway etc..)

  • Supermutant are more direct and ruthless, synths use speed and coordination to flush and surround their opponents and pursue them relentlessly.

  • Gunners, minutemen and BOS approach the enemy carefully using cover and picking their shots.

  • Raiders are less organized their tactics vary depending on their experience and mental situation. Has Professional, Chubby etc.

  • Predators will pounce on their victims relentlessly with no respite.

  • Flies will attempt to dance around in search of an opening.

  • Settlers will cower far from the enemy and behind cover in attempt to distance themselves from danger.

  • Npcs use ammo. This means they will have more start ammo compared to vanilla, kill them quickly to reap the reward. Most of them will carry a backup weapon in form of a handgun or a melee weapon.

  • Reduced and careful use of grenades.

  • Humans are no longer legendary enemies.

  • Companions, now a little more aggressive.

S.P.E.C.I.A.L
  • All perks - Are no longer level tied.

  • Player starts with 47 special stats as seen in previous fallouts that included the popular gifted perk.

  • Bobbleheads are valuable collectibles and no longer increase special.

Strength

  • Basic carry weight - Lowered to 150 from 200.

  • Each point now grant 25 weight points instead of 10.

  • Strength Improves accuracy, stability and sprint speed.

Perception

  • Perception slow time when aiming with effect the grows the higher it is, after acquiring awareness rank 2.

  • Perception is now extremely important for VATS chances.

Endurance

  • Health base is 20, each additional endurance points adds 10 hit points.

  • Endurance is more important for sprinting that before.

Agility

  • Agility Action points base is 20, each agility point add 10 actions points.

  • Agility Improves movement speed and mag reload time.

Luck

  • Luck point increases damage by 1%, At luck 5 you will do the same damage as your enemies.

  • Reorganizes perk trees, placing the more valuable ones higher on the chain and according to their appropriate special demand.

  • Tweaks damage perks to support VATS and guns accuracy instead of a damage boost.

  • Medic perk. hasten the speed of stimpaks effect.

  • Moving target increases speed instead of reducing damage.

  • Blitz Increases sprint speed.

  • Chem Resistant - Grants improved resistance to acid and poison.

  • Picking all locks is available from the beginning, taking lockpicking perks will ease the process.

  • Hacking is effortless (Once you're in a terminal there is always 1 word) and requires perks to hack Advanced - Master Terminals.

  • There is an optional file that allows for player skilled based hacking where-in you hack all terminals and taking Hacking perks adds more chances of guessing.

  • Lowered V.A.T.S perks bonus to keep consistency.

Factions

Threat level:

  • Scavengers are friendlier.

  • BOS - Wear correct armor and paint. Their forces troops distribution similar to military, with the main force consisting mostly of knights, aspirants and initiates.

  • Gunners - Troops distribution similar to the military, high ranks are more rare. Different units have different roles.

  • Vertibirds are durable and will attempt to flee if badly damaged and have fearsome frontal cannons.

  • Minutemen grow stronger in skill and equipment overtime.

Creatures, Robots and Inhabitants of the Commonwealth
  • Ghouls - Are madder.

  • Apex predators are now apex.

  • Reduced Mirelurks health, Increase their Shell Protection.

  • Super Mutants - Masters and overlords are rare.

  • Robots no longer shoot humans on sight.

  • Synths - Faster, more precise, and fight until fully incapacitated.

  • Raids have 3-5 larger force with the intention to overrun your settlements.

  • Reduced heavy weapons spawns on Supermutant Raids

Loot
  • Prewar containers don't store pipe weapons.

  • Safes, vaults, contain more valuables and less weapons and ammo.

  • High tech weaponry is rare and sought after.

  • Animals grant meat per weight.

  • Hunt an animal and sell its meat to make a living.

  • Adds an optional file for cannibals.

  • Stimpaks and Radaways are rarer than before, Heal you completely, cost more, harder to make. And have a side effect for the duration they heal you.

  • Increased Antibiotics loot by a bit.

Economy & Settlements
  • Deflated Real world economy.

  • Resources and junk yield believable values.

  • Caps are more valuable.

  • Immersive Scrapping and Crafting and based on real life data, yields proper amount of materials from various scrappable things in the commonwealth as well as proper amount of things needed to craft something.

  • Complete ammo crafting.

  • Many new ammo conversions.

  • Immersive crafting and purchasable Ammo - these can be shipments, crafted or received (dissemble ammo shipment from vendors) in the chemistry station.

  • Introduces Animal fat, can be used to produce oil under cooking crafting.

  • Craft rare materials in the chemistry station through the use of designated perks and the source materials used in real world.

  • Fusion cores last longer, are harder to find, and their condition varies.

  • Adds a new fusion core based generator, that requires 1 fusion core to build.

  • Adds new fusion cell generators.

  • Increases output and requirements of original Generators, resulting in less stress on building limits and cells.

  • Longer power cables.

  • Scavengers work harder, providing additional construction resources.

  • Diamond city traders offer more construction resources shipments.

  • Added Craftable Food shipments (Various Animal Meat, Crops, etc.) from the food crafting station.

  • Craft settlement food plants with wild food plants.

  • Quality of meat varies, more radiated animals produce more radiated meals.

  • Vegetables, Fruits and Purified Water will heal small amounts of radiation and put the cancer at bay.

  • Make clothes from RazorGrain at the cooking station.

  • Higher water and food produce from resources unused by the settlers calculated, based on recommended calories and water intake, Ready to turn into Shipments to fund your operations.

  • Crops retain vanilla settlement properties, Increased produce per food unit to compensate, Increased amount of plants required for 1 food unit.

Immersive Gameplay Fallout 4 Ai

  • Adds 9 turrets variations (Each of the ammo variants).

  • Use an ordinary or institute laser guns to create a turret.

  • Defenses provide more defense value and require more realistic components to create.

  • The increased defense value enables a more authentic farmland feel without overwhelming presence of turrets to keep the population happy, and in addition reduces the strain on consoles and weaker pcs.

  • You no longer need to invest in intelligence, gunnut or science to build turrets if you have the caps. Simply visit a weapon merchants and purchase their goods. Soon will apply to robots as well.

  • Guard tower defense set to 6.

Efficiency
  • Due to how the mod deals with leveled lists, the game is more efficient compared to vanilla. Important when many enemies spawn at the same time. (And all the time due to cell reset constant calculations at the background)

  • Reduces inventory management time - by Integrating a modified version of Valdacil item sorting mod, if you find his sorting beneficial. Please show your appreciation to his mod.

Immersive Gameplay Fallout 4 Ps4

When installing Immersive-Gameplay, the mod needs to be placed at the BOTTOM of your load order, and below it the season-pass patch

For the best experience, Erezike recommends a New Game on Normal or Survival.

Adds a well-hidden basement to the player house in sanctuary, under the ruined bed, with essential gear to face the harsh wasteland.

Setting timescale to '8' to have more time moving around. (Set timescale to 8) Console commands works on survival with this mod on (set by default in (XBONE))

If starting the mod mid game, use a perk respec mod and open the special menu. (showspecialmenu) To reselect your perks.

Highly Recommend using 'Don't call me Settler' mortal option with this mod.
